Letter to Editor in support of Dana McCaleb for School Board in Fincastle
Dear Editor and Readers,
I am writing to promote the excellence of Fincastle School Board Candidate, Dana McCaleb. By far, Dana is the best candidate for this position.
Dana is invested in our community. Dana has lived in Botetourt County since 1995, and has spent her entire teaching career living in the County, working to foster the growth of the young people of Botetourt. She has worked tirelessly to build the character and promote the education of our young people. Dana is also the only candidate with real-life experience working in Botetourt County Schools. Dana taught at James River, coached at James River and even founded the James River Key Club. Dana obviously sees merit in Botetourt County schools, as she has chosen to allow the schools to educate her son throughout his school career. Dana also supports the Botetourt County Sherriff’s department , as her husband is a Botetourt County Deputy. There is no other candidate who can demonstrate such community involvement and investment. Botetourt deserves an invested candidate!
Dana is the only candidate who has actual classroom experience and a legitimate teaching license. Dana has worked for the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning and is currently working for the Virginia Department of Education Training and Technical Assistance Center at Virginia Tech. That is truly a broad breadth of educational experience! Our school board needs the expertise of someone who has actually spent time in our schools and with our children, as well as someone who has a true understanding of the educational system. Although it is important to know how to balance a budget, that is a task that can be learned. Actual experience in our schools is a quality that only Dana possesses. Our board needs representation by someone who can speak from personal involvement in the classroom. Dana is the only candidate who has that experience and background. We desperately need a person with the knowledge of what occurs within our schools. Our teachers, parents, students and community need that expertise! Botetourt deserves an educator candidate!
Dana is also an independent candidate. She does not have a sibling already sitting on the Board, and she knows that the challenges faced in the northern end of the county are not the same as those faced in other more densely populated areas. In my opinion, the diversity of the school board is critical for its success. Botetourt deserves an independent candidate!
I speak as an educator and a mother of two Botetourt students. I’m asking you to vote for the best candidate, the only candidate who truly understands education, and will be an independent representative for the Fincastle District. Please vote for Dana McCaleb for the Fincastle seat on the school board. A vote for Dana is a vote for education!
