School Board has first read of snow routes for students
Chris Morris in Botetourt County Schools Transportation has been asked by Dr. Lisa Chen, the school superintendent, to do something new regarding snow days: develop snow routes.
Sept . 19 the School Board heard the first reading of the proposal which would change routes in Eagle Rock, Fincastle and Buchanan. The process is still taking place to determine in other county areas. Parents would have to bring their students to designated bus stops. ” There would be advanced notification by the school division,” Morris said.
The safety of the students is of up most importance,” Morris stated, ” Dirt roads, roads with narrow turnarounds and drop-off’s in the terrain, would be non pick-up areas during snow and floods.
Chen told the school board at this time it appears 85 students would be affected in the power point Morris presented. Thus school would be open as usualfor the other 4,500 students on regular routes. If it is a safety issue to get to the snow route bus stop, then it would likely be an excused absence.
Stay tuned for more.
