Bill Price is committed to remembering 9/11

Bill Price has an extraordinary plan to get the community to honor the fallen first responders on 9/11. He calls it the 9/11 Memorial Walk. Price is a retired Dept. of Defense firefighter having spent 25 years as a firefighter alongside the US Navy. He lives in Buchanan with his wife and two sons. You may have seen him walking along Main Street Buchanan carrying the 9/11 flag amd dressed in firefighter gear. Every year he has tried to walk somewhere to honor the fallen including running steps in tall buildings .

A native New Yorker, he came to Buchanan to settle and raise his family after he retired from his last station at Norfolk Naval Base this past May. He is associated with the Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department and they  support his  walk plans.

“Did you know that Danny Suhr of Engine Company 216 was the first firefighter killed at the World Trade Centers on 9/11/ 2001,” he asks? “No? he was killed by a falling body.” He continued, “I am here to keep alive the memory of those guys who made the ultimate sacrifice that day.”

There were 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement, and 8 paramedics killed that day

He has walked many miles in honor of those who died as well as were injured including hours on the boardwalk in Virginia Beach. Bill Price is a dedicated fireman through and through. He encourages his boys to participate with him.

“I have invited all of the first responders in Botetourt County to meet here on 9/11 and walk. It would be great if the community could join in as well. He stops for a breath, a very enthusiastic man for the memory of 9/11. “We must keep this message of sacrifice and what 9/11 did to this country for future generations. At 11 a.m. that day the Buchanan Theatre will show the 9/11 movie.”

So mark your calendars Botetourt, get up and come to Buchanan and walk in memory of the fallen and injured on Sept. 11. The 9/11 Memorial Walk begins at 8 am- 10:30 a.m. The walk officially begins at 8:46 a.m. the moment when the first plane hit the World Trade Centers, 18 years ago.
