More Broadband proposed coming to Botetourt through Lumos

On Tuesday the Board of Supervisors on behalf of the citizens now and future in Botetourt County entered in to a PPEA agreement with Lumos. The agreement begins with exploration of the possibility of adding fiber optic broadband in the north eastern end of Botetourt (ie Buchanan area) . 645 houses and 43 businesses will be impacted by the commitment. “Over 1,663 unserved residents will be able to get reliable internet service,” said Mac Scothorn, the Valley District supervisor working with the Broadband Commission.

The exploration of service and how to provide it will continue in to late summer to formulate the plan. Scothorn said they hope to have the new broadband in service by 2023.

CBEC and BARC had already come aboard to provide fiber to the near Rockbridge and western Botetourt areas.
