Botetourt Beekeepers Association give first scholarship to Allison Price

Botetourt Beekeepers Association gave Allison Price of LBHS a $500 scholarship.

The Botetourt Beekeepers Association Scholarship was established in January 2019 to encourage youth to explore and support apiculture in our community.

Recipients of the scholarship must: be residents of Botetourt County; enrolled in Botetourt County Public Schools, a private school or an approved homeschool program during the award year; have experience keeping honey bees for a minimum of 9 months within the previous three years; and submit a completed application along with the required essay responses.  We were pleased to have had two excellent submissions for the scholarship this first year.

This year’s recipient is a senior at Lord Botetourt High School.  She began her beekeeping experiences through 4-H at the age of thirteen where she learned how to tend to and keep a hive.  Her firsthand experiences with beekeeping not only taught her about the importance of pollinators but she gained valuable experience with the responsibility that goes along with caring for honeybees.   The scholarship recipient plans on attending University of Mary Washington in the fall where she plans to study Communications with a focus in digital media.  She hopes to be able to resume her beekeeping hobby after college.

We are proud to announce Allison Price as the inaugural recipient of the 2019 Botetourt Beekeepers Association Scholarship.  Allison will receive a $500.00 check and one year of membership in the Botetourt Beekeepers Association. The Botetourt Beekeepers Association wishes you continued success in your future endeavors.
