“Go Virginia” explained to Board of Supervisors

Former Buchanan District rep John Williamson brought Go Virginia to the regular meeting of the Botetourt County Supervisors on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Go Virginia states its purpose to create more higher paying jobs through incentivized collaboration, primarily through out- of-state revenue, which diversifies and strengthens the economy in every region.

Since Botetourt has a building ready for occupancy at Greenfield, certainly Go Virginia offers a way to attract a new business for that building and offers the county a way to get collaborative funding.

By directing growth and diversification, the program offer opportunities, helps create business leadership, prioritizes projects for the state board and encourages collaboration inside and outside of Go Virginia.

Williamson said, “I am one of many in region 2 on the Go Virginia council. Region 2 basically covers the 460 corridor from Lynchburg to Blacksburg and encompasses Liberty University and Virginia Tech.”

Talent identification, economic expansion, business focused training. incubators/accelerators are among the many areas the Go Virginia Council promotes.

The following are areas of job growth concentration: Life Sciences and Health Care, Advanced Manufacturing, Information Technology/Engineering Technologies and Food and Beverage Processing.

The Supervisors seemed interested in the program offered by Go Virginia and asked a number of questions on how to get involved.
