Gil Harrington to Speak at Blue Ridge Library
Gil Harrington will be making a presentation at the Blue Ridge Library on Tuesday, September 25, at 2 PM. She is the mother of Morgan Harrington who was abducted and murdered in 2009. Morgan’s death caused Gil to become a determined advocate against sexual violence. Gil Harrington founded Help Save the Next Girl Foundation in 2011 to promote safety awareness through education, victim outreach, and legislative change. Gil received her B.S. in Nursing from UVA and the majority of her clinical practice has been with Oncology patients. For the last fifteen years, Gil has traveled with Orphan Medical Network International to Zambia, Africa to care for patients in remote tribal regions. The Morgan Harrington Educational Wing in Ndola, Africa, and the Morgan Dana Harrington Memorial Scholarship at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, VA were both created to honor Morgan and her desire to be an educator. Gil is married to Dr. Dan Harrington, the Vice Dean of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. The Harrington’s surviving child, Alex, resides in Brooklyn, NY. Gil Harrington is the author of Morgan Harrington: Murdered Dead and For Good published in 2017.
