Showalter WWII and Iwo Jima Vet, will toss out the first pitch at Honor Fest!

Carlos Showalter of Buchanan will toss out the first pitch this Saturday at 2 p.m.  in the Honor Fest softball game at Haley Field in Salem.

Showalter, 93 is a WWII Vet who served in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific.  He survived Iwo Jima, one of the fiercest campaigns of WWII . New Freedom Farm in Buchanan is a frequent stop for Showalter. Part of the money raised during the event will go to help the non-profit horse farm for Vets with PTSD and for those seeking comraderie with fellow veterans.

Said Lois Fritts, head of the organization,  “People like Mr. Showalter are true American Heros.”
