New Colonial Elementary School update given at school board meeting

Colonial elementary School’s new building will look a great deal like East Mont Elementary School in Montgomery County. “So much so, that a field trip to the prototype by the instructional team visited the school and were given a tour by East Mont principal Denise Boyle,” said School Superintendent John Busher to the school board members on August 9 at the regular meeting.

“The East Mont location has been operational for 8 years,” he said. “The team was able to ask ‘how do you do this?’ to Boyle in reference to the building use.”

Plans are underway and a request for proposals (RFP) for the building of the school has been in process by Spectrum Design. Five firms replied to the RFP.  On August 23, at a morning work session, Spectrum Design  will answer questions and detail information to the school board.

The Botetourt Board of Supervisors earlier this year authorized the issuance of $22.5 million in general obligation bonds to fund the construction for the new building for Colonial Elementary School.
