Per pupil costs in Botetourt County for 2018-19

The Botetourt County School Board met on August 9 at the school board office on Poor Farm Rd in Fincastle. One item discussed was attendance. On the first day of school 4,718 students came to class. “The budget for the school year 2018-19 reflected 4,576, ” said School superintendent John Busher. That is 71 more students than expected.

However he cautioned that the two most important days reflected in average daily membership (ADM) are Sept. 30 and March 30 which are important for school funding reimbursement by the state.

Busher presented figures for the budgeted cost per pupil for the coming year. $12,167 is the expected budgeted amount. Busher also noted that the composite index has increased allowing the county to pay more of the share of the cost per pupil.
