LAP: A no-kill animal shelter in Botetourt County needs volunteers, supplies and monetary donations

The League of Animal Protection has been in Botetourt County since 1995. Located just below Central Academy at 603 Poor Farm Rd in Fincastle, the shelter is a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats. Since 1995, they have adopted out over 3,000 animals. “We get many of our animals from other shelters and pounds,” noted Pat Shaver who is the dedicated shelter director. ” We are smaller than some of the other shelters, but we are mighty and are very careful when our animals are adopted to their forever homes.”

The mission states: “The League of Animal Protection is a non profit, no-kill shelter in the Roanoke Valley. Our volunteers and supporters rescue abandoned dogs and cats and give them medical treatment, shelter and care until they can find their forever homes. LAP is funded by private donations, membership fees and fundraising events.”

The LAP has over 60 volunteers, but could always use a few more and must be over the age of 16. There are 3 volunteers every morning along with Shaver. Volunteers are needed  at the hours of 7:30- 11:00 am and 2:00 -5:00 pm.  The public hours for the LAP are 8- 11  am and 3-5 pm
