Kiwanis successful launch of Imagination Library at the YMCA
Kiwanis announces success of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Botetourt
Botetourt County, VA, November 28, 2023: The Kiwanis Club of Botetourt County held a celebration event at the Botetourt Family YMCA on Saturday, November 11 in recognition of the 500 children who have registered for free books since the kick-off of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) in Botetourt County. “Achieving this goal was truly the result of a community wide effort,” said John Plenge, Kiwanis Club President. “Families enjoyed games, snacks, and a highlight of the event were animated book readings to children gathered in front of the cozy fireplace.” DPIL Community sponsors and partners, Altec Inc. and Craig Botetourt Electric Co-op, helped plan and host the event. The Botetourt County YMCA enthusiastically welcomed the use of their venue.
Without the generosity of corporate, foundation and individual donors the Kiwanis Club of Botetourt would not be able to continue with this outstanding program to provide free books to children from birth to five years old. The Kiwanis Club would like to recognize the Botetourt Educational Foundation and Botetourt County Public Schools as new sponsors of the program. For community members interested in supporting the Imagination Library in Botetourt County or registering a child or grandchild who lives in the County, the Kiwanis Club website(kiwanisclubofbotetourt.org) provides a link for on-line giving and registration. The cost for Kiwanis to put one child through the program for one year is $25. Additional corporate sponsorships are welcome by contacting kiwanisbocoliteracy@gmail.com.
The Kiwanis Club also announced new members for the period: Cindy Bailey (First Bank); Tina King (First Bank), Carol Walker, Teanna Ruppel (Rethunkmyjunk Design), Jordan Sereno (Bank of Botetourt), and Vaso Doubles.
