Courthouse phase 1 fundiing approved green light to begin construction project
A contract of $5.2 million for Phase 1 of the new Botetourt County Courthouse project received the nod from the Board of Supervisors at the Tuesday, October 25, 2022 meeting at the Botetourt County Administration Building at Greenfield.
The initial phase of construction is multi-layered and includes renovating 4,200 square feet of the Botetourt-Craig County Public Safety Building to create a temporary courtroom, moving the James Breckinridge Law Office and monuments from their present locations, moving the Circuit Court Clerk’s office to the Old General District Court Building, and temporary storage of documents contained in the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.
The project is currently about two months behind and this portion is expected to be completed late next spring, Assistant County Administrator Jon Lanford told the supervisors.
Once the Circuit Court and the courtrooms are settled, demolition of the current courthouse can begin.
The entire construction project has a price tag of over $30 million and is expected to take several years to complete.
