Board of Supervisors says No to 330 new homes

The Board of Supervisors denied a rezoning request that would have added as many as 130 homes on a 78.9 acre parcel near Ashley Plantation in Amsterdam, and approved a Special Exception Permit for a car wash in Daleville after public hearings at the April 26, 2022 meeting.

VJL LLC (ABoone Real Estate, Inc., contractual purchaser) had requested a rezoning of the property located on Greenfield Street (Route 673) from Agricultural (A-1) to Residential (R-1). The property would have been accessed at the O’Hara Drive (Route 1155) intersection) with no driveways coming off of either road. The project would have included approximately 30 large homes with 98 others built in a cluster development. The project also would have included 12 acres of open space.

The Planning Commission recommended approval of the project despite more 20 written comments objecting to the project. The Supervisors, however, took those objections into consideration and voted 4-1 to deny the project.

The Supervisors conditionally approved a request from New Orchard Marketplace LLC for an SEP for a carwash. The carwash would be located on a 1.466 acre lot at the intersection of Roanoke Road (US 220) and Marketplace Drive (Route 1191) in Daleville.
