Sheriff’s inmate crew removed Gravel in Sommersby

Many resdents in Sommersby subdivision near Trinity and off Country Club Road have been less than thrilled with the tar and gravel CDOT applied to their streets the summer of 2021. Previously they had asphalt and felt the tar and gravel was hard to navigate and looked messy. Jen K Ward of Salem VDOT Communications said the more the residents drove on it, the more it would solidfy to an inquiry by The Botetourt Bee during the summer.

On Oct. 28, several months and many more complaints later, an Inmate work crew and a Deputy arrived to blow the loose gravel into the center of the street and VDOT had a truck scooping up the excess.

However. The work crew kept at it and the VDOT Trucks left for the day. So there was an attempt to remove the loose gravel, but the weather will likely scatter it back all over the road. A kind of half hearted effort on VDOT’s part. Time will tell if they come back to finish the job.

Good job to the Inmate work crew, though.
