Altec Weld-off highlights technical education skills in high school students
Altec Industries along with the BTEC welding program hosted the 2nd Altec Weld Off on May 5, 2021.
This weld competition was hosted at the Botetourt Technical Education Center and included 29 total students from BTEC, Burton, Byers Technical & Floyd County High School Weld programs.
Senior contestants went through 3 rotations which included taking a written assessment, participate in a job interview with Altec and a timed weld competition.
Underclassmen contestants went through 3 rotations, written weld assessment, participated in a mock interview to learn about interview etiquette and techniques, and a timed weld competition.
Seniors that competed in the competition will attend an open house at Altec where employment opportunities will be discussed.
Top 3 winners from each category won their choice of a welding prize package.
