School will start Aug. 10. Here’s the plan
The plan was based on 91% of parents responses including the parent survey, several School Division committees, social media and emails. The Fall semester will follow Phase 3. The CDC, VDH, VDOE, Roanoke City -Alleghany Health District gave guidance.
85% of parents were in favor of some sort of in school and remote learning.
Here is the plan adopted by the School Board
PK-12 Schedule for Fall semester
●Students will receive in-person instruction two days per week and remote learning three days per week.
●Students will be scheduled for in-person learning on Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday. Remote learning will occur on the other three days of a student’s schedule.
●Students from the same home will be scheduled for in-person learning on the same days.
●Students may opt to participate in 100% remote learning.
●Face masks are optional at school while social distancing is maintained.
●Transportation will be provided for in-person learning at all BCPS schools with one student per seat and required face masks. Students from the same household may be assigned to the same seat.
●Individual student schedules will be released in July after transportation routes have been finalized.
BCPS Calendar 2020-2021 Fall semester has been adjusted to reflect the new day.
Student schedules may vary the weeks of September 7 and November 2 due to schools being closed for Labor Day and Election Day. The School Board approved changes to the school calendar.
Remote learning for all students will be scheduled for November 23 and 24.If permitted by the Governor’s Office and the Virginia Department of Education,
BCPS will return to full in-person learning as soon as it is safe to do so. They hope for Spring Semester. The plan will be submitted to the VDOE for approval.
“Parents will have time to make preparations for the opening of school,” noted Chairman Michelle Crook.
