Lowes delivers to Building Trades at BTEC

BTEC students and Lowes employees

The Lowes on Challenger Drive in Bonsack donated $2500 woth of tools and materials to BTEC Building Trades students. On Wed, Nov. 13, Lowe’s delivered. “The donation is part of our Heroes program of community support,”said Steve Owens of Lowes.

The tools included battery operated saws and drills. Other materials will be delivered by Lowe’s in the near future.

The students will soon beging the second Botetourt Education Foundation house to be built in Phase 4 of Santillane in Fincastle. The construction will begin in early winter. The 1530 sq foot home will be built by BTEC Building Trades students and contractors they will assist. The tools and materials Lowe’s donated will help the students at the construction of the home site.

Phillip Simmons, the Building Trades teacher said, “This class learns how to problem solve and be job ready with their skills.” While waiting to build the house, they have been making porch swings and side tables. They are learning expertise in using wood working machinery and building.
