Botetourt Receives Funding for West Center Drive at Greenfield

– The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) has funded the next stage of infrastructure development at the Botetourt Center at Greenfield, one of the region’s premier industrial parks. West Center Drive will be the newest road at Greenfield and will allow access to additional land for industrial development. The award of the funding through the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDoT) Industrial Access grant program helps to demonstrate the importance of growing the road network to Botetourt County, the region, and the state.

“I am pleased that the Commonwealth has noticed the significant growth at Greenfield and is committing resources to assist in serving the anticipated next phase of this growth,” said Raymond Smoot, Salem District CTB Member. In the past few years, Greenfield has experienced significant growth from both new and existing businesses. ELDOR Corporation, Ballast Point Brewing Company, and Pratt Industries have all located to the park since 2016. Altec Industries, a long-time company in the park, has also expanded its presence in recent years. As a result, there has been a growing need to provide road access to additional areas of the park for new businesses. “We are thrilled to have the support of VDoT in expanding the road system at Greenfield,” said County Administrator Gary Larrowe. “West Center Drive will allow us to open up access to new industrial pad sites, allowing Botetourt to keep growing.” The funding for the new road is a partnership between Botetourt County and VDoT.

The road grant from VDoT is providing $650,000 for the project through dedicated funds used to support economic and industrial development. The County continues to market the newly accessible sites to companies for investment and the creation of employment. “The CTB, VDoT, and our regional legislators have been excellent partners with Botetourt to get this road funded,” said Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Billy Martin. “We know that we cannot do these projects on our own, and these partnerships help us to build infrastructure and invest in the future while saving some of our taxpayers’ money.” It is anticipated that West Center Drive will be completed within the year.
