Friends of Natural Bridge State Park visit BOS
The Friends of the Natural Bridge State Park visited the Botetourt Board of Supervisors on November 27. Their mission, to notify the county that they are a state park that self-funds locally and obviously they feel since Botetourt is next door, maybe a little help might come their way. They fund the park positions and hope for help to make the 1 dollar spent equals $13 return for a 12-1 ratio on dollars invested shared with others. Though not a specific appeal to Northern Botetourt and the Town of Buchanan just 13 miles away, certainly the area is close enough to benefit.
Armed with facts and an informative palm card, Craig Campbell with a state park ranger in tow, made the appeal. He said, ” We are the only VA state Park that relies on locally generated funds.”
Natural Bridge was visited by both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and is one of the wonders of the (US) Natural World. Campbell said thousands have visited the state park since it formed a few years ago and it is a stop for many school field trips. He stated, “This year we are down a little due to all of the rain.”
Natural Bridge is worth a visit though, so check it out on a warm, dry day.
