LBHS FFA announces State results

Lord Botetourt High School FFA members compete at the State Fair of Virginia.

On Friday September the 28th, 9 members of the Lord Botetourt FFA chapter attended the State Fair of Virginia to compete in various State Competitions.

Tucker Grimshaw competed in the State Small engines competition, in order to compete in this event Tucker had to compete and win at the local, district and regional level. The competition included a written exam, Tool Identification, Parts lookup and a practical part where he had to diagnose and repair a small engine. Tucker placed 1st in the state and received a blue ribbon, an 81 piece tool set with box, a $100.00 check and a $500.00 scholarship from the State Fair of Virginia.

Brian Watts and J.P. Whorley competed in the state tractor troubleshooting contest. Prior to competing in the state fair, Brian Watts and J.P. Whorley placed 1st in both the district and regional tractor troubleshooting contest. This contest included a written exam and then the two had 20 minutes to diagnose to bugs on six tractors. The then drew at random one of the tractors on which they had 20 minutes to make the necessary repairs. They placed 5th in the competition and received a yellow ribbon.

Emily Duncan, Lauren Gentry, Reagan Hall, C.J. Lambert, Faith Settle and Aviana Wilson competed in the state Junior. Dairy judging contest. This contest included an written exam, Dairy Herd Improvement exercise, Equipment and dairy products identification  and two judging classes.

After competitions students were able to enjoy the fair before returning home. The chapter would like to thank James River Equipment Company for sponsoring the events.
