Donnie D’s Bagels and Deli to open Sept. 24
Donnie DeGeorgis of Botetourt has been working to open the new bagel and deli shop opening Sept. 24 since November. Located beside the Food Lion at 70 Market Center Way in Daleville, the shop will serve homemade bagels and bagel sandwiches, salads and soup, plus sell deli meats and Red Rooster Coffee products. It will be open from 6 am til 3 pm.
“It takes time to get a shop to the time till opening,” he said. His lease began in April. Structures has prepared the interior, which is farm-like wood, barn wood and granite with stainless steel. A beautiful view of the mountains is across the way. The counter base is local barn wood he and his son painted, stained and sealed.
DeGeorgis has been in food service, the armed forces and a cop before coming to work in adult mental health services several years back in the Roanoke Valley.
“I knew I wanted to open a bagel and deli shop last November when I sat in the parking lot looking at the building.” His space is right next door to Carilion Pediatric Medicine.
He is using NY bagel base. There will be 19 different bagels situated in the bagel baskets he and his son Tristen designed. A number of different bagel sandwiches are on tap including lox and bagels, cream cheese of different flavors, deli meat and cheese, and chicken salad. They carry sandwich names like the LB Cavalier, the James River Panini, the Arm and Trout.
Soup and salads also fill-out the menu. Boar’s Head meats and cheeses can also be purchased by the pound. He will serve pork roll like NY deli’s have as well, on a sandwich.
The coffee bar will feature a slushie and different roasts from Red Rooster Coffee in Floyd. He purchased the bagel shop equipment from all over including a trip to Chicago to buy a used test kitchen oven.
” We want to serve. It is part of our motto, both people and the community,” he said. He lives in Botetourt, so this his community. He has 6 kids ranging in age from 6 weeks to 22 years old. You can soon visit the website donniedsbagelsanddeli.com for a look at the menu and catering will also join the services provided.
So come on out beginning on Monday and try a bagel sandwich!
