Dr. Rainone Named to National Community College Commission
Dabney S. Lancaster Community College President Dr. John Rainone has been appointed to the Commission on Small and Rural Colleges, it was announced recently by the Board of Directors of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Dr. Rainone’s term began July 1 and will continue through June 30, 2021.
The Commission on Small and Rural Colleges will offer the American Association of Community Colleges advice and counsel on trends and issues impacting these institutions. The commission will highlight innovative practices in small and rural colleges that can serve as models for other institutions, as well as suggest ways in which the unique needs of these institutions may be more fully addressed.
” I’m honored to have been selected as a member of this important national commission,” remarked Dr. Rainone, who has been president of DSLCC since the summer of 2013. “Small and rural colleges serve as the engine in their respective communities by providing key educational opportunities, offering job training for entry-level and incumbent workers, playing a significant role in economic development activities, and supporting small business growth,” said Rainone.
“I hope to offer support and share best practices from our own community college, as well as ideas from this area in general that may add value as commission members work to fulfill the mission of the organization
The AACC is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. The association represents nearly 1,200 2-year, associate degree-granting institutions and more than 12 million students.
