Windowsill Soldiers encourage prayers for US Military
Windowsill Soldiers
Jars of toy plastic soldiers sit at attention in businesses located in Botetourt. They are not a whim for children but have a purpose. The idea is to get a soldier (yes, some of them are armed,) and to place the soldier on the windowsill and to pray for them daily. In Troutville, the sites are the Apple Barn, Troutville Town Hall, and the Post Office and the Sunshine Station.
The Sunshine Girls of Troutville have been distributing jars of the plastic toy soldiers to Troutville businesses and are now offering to bring them to any business in Botetourt County.
“There is power in prayer,” noted Lee Minnix. It serves as a daily reminder to pray for the troops stationed near and far. Each jar is accompanied by a simple explanation and in large bold typed letters, “Take one and make time to PRAY for our military.
The Sunshine Girls are instrumental in the yearly Veterans Day program and dinner at Troutville Elementary School, so it is anatural they would follow current service men and women.
Bill Joppich Digital Image Printing in Daleville became the first business outside of Troutville to offer up a mantle in Daleville. He is featured in the photo.
